Instructions on registering at the NY Times

& on accessing the NY Times Drug Policy Forum

& http:www.drugsense.org/chat lines

NY Times Instructions:

1. Are you already registered with NY Times? If not, simply
type in http://www.nytimes.com, (or click this link) and it will ask you to register as a
user.

As I recall, you set up a screen or two, choose a user name, might
I suggest first_last?:) underscore is necessary. (Remember your password!)

(You can access the NYT from any computer if you remember your name and password.)

2. Once setup as a user, on the main page, select (under OPINION
on the left side of the screen) "Readers Opinions"

3. On the next page you will select "National" from the selection on the right side, just under the banner.

4.  This brings you to a screen with perhaps a dozen forums listed.  Select the "Drug Policy Forum" link.

5. This will then bring you to the actual forum. Usually 5 to
ten posts will be on this screen. To get to the latest posts, hit the red "RECENT" Button.

If you look at the red buttons,
you have the option of going backwards to look at PREVIOUS posts
and if you are back on a prior page you can go to RECENT post
again with a click on that red button.

6. For you to post to the forum, you can either scroll to the
bottom of the page, (any page you are in), or select the POST
MESSAGE red button. Simply type in your response and then hit
the POST MY MESSAGE red button which is directly under your
message itself.

7. Having gotten this far with my description, it is really
quite easy once you go thru it. But remember, after you post,
your response will be on a screen with only one prior post, I
guess it is some kind of holding area? At this point, you must
hit RECENT again to see the full screen of recent posts.

If you have any trouble setting this up or have any questions at
all, please call me: Home 281-752-9198.

A couple of things to remember: 1) you can cut and paste to the little message box to facilitate your responses and 2) the screen you see after following step 6 above will not be updated to show any additional posts until you hit the "Refresh" button in your Explorer row of buttons.

Drugsense Chat Instructions:

Simply type in http://www.drugsense.org/chat (or click this link) then type your name in the box of the screen that appears.  Hit enter and you are in the chat room.  Type your thoughts into the "dialogue" box near the bottom of the screen, hit enter and it becomes part of the ongoing, live chat.  If you have problems, let me know.
